Even though Ono again earned the right to park his bike first on the grid with the fastest time of 1:52.034s, Denny was even more impressed when he scored the second fastest time of 1:52.038s despite racing while suffering a bout of typhus. Denny's strong performance relegated Hikari Okubo to third grid with a time of 1:52.367.
"Everyone was very fast today. I wasn't so quick during the middle part even though I kept pushing. But it was really difficult because everyone was trying to follow my tail. I wasn't comfortable with that. The laptimes are very close and I expect an intense battle tomorrow. I hope to come up tops again," said Ono.
The riders who qualified for the second row included Australian rider Joshua Frederick Hook (fourth fastest with 1:52.470s), Malaysian S. Sasitharen (fifth fastest with 1:52.643s) and Thai rider Apiwat Wongthananon (sixth fastest with 1:52.788s).
