Both riders were the pace setters in both Practice 1 and Practice 2 with Fujiwara leading the charge with a fastest time of 1:30.805s while Fadli was second fastest with 1:31.446s. Malaysian rider Md Zamri Baba of PETRONAS Hong Leong Yamaha served up a surprise when he emerged third fastest with 1:31.464s. Doni Tata Pradita of Yamaha Indoprom TJM Yamalube KYT, who had just rejoined the Asian series, was fourth fastest with 1:31.812s. Meanwhile, Ryuichi Kiyonari lived up to his top billings when he clocked in fifth fastest on an unfamiliar circuit with a time of 1:31.815s.
"Even though I was able to clinch the fastest time, I am far from satisfied with my laptimes. I don't think we went fast enough. My target was actually to hit within the 1:30.500s range. The weather was really hot today and I think that affected performance a lot. Tomorrow the team will try for a better set-up so I hope to be able to hit my target then," said Fujiwara.
Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman, hampered by a wrist injury sustained from a previous round of the Malaysian Cub Prix, finished sixth fastest with 1:31.834. Wildcard rider Shu Sato was seventh fastest with 1:31.855 followed by three Indonesian riders Rafid Topan, Sudarmono and Ahmad Saugi with times of 1:31.882s, 1:31.953s and 1:32.292s respectively.
